Using Modern Social Networking to Promote Your Business
Many businesses in the world today utilize the internet to get work done and to communicate with their clients or with each other. It cannot be denied that for a business to succeed, it has to have presence on the internet somehow. It is now where people go to find things or services they need, and also information. Most companies have already addressed this by putting up websites, a business practice that is fast becoming customary as more and more customers tend to seek a company's website in order to know more anything about it.
The problem with having a website is that most times the people who know about the site are the same people who worked on it or were previous clients. Certainly, word-of-mouth is a great marketing concept but how would a company promote their site effectively during these internet-heavy times? The answer to that question seems to be social networking.
With the internet bigger than ever, the use of social networking has evolved from merely a frivolous use of the internet to something of quite great importance. Social networking sites are a great way to promote your company's activities, products, and services, while also maintaining a sort of relationship with former clients, or forge new ones. The ones commonly used by companies to build a social network are:
LinkedIn ' a social networking sites that is mainly used to provide work opportunities, build business relationships, and provide information about the industry you are involved in. The people who use LinkedIn are usually individuals who list their educational and occupational history ' a sort of a résumé if you will ' and forge relationships with people of a similar field.
Twitter ' the phenomenon of Twitter resides in the fact that it is very straightforward. One can post 140-character answers to the question, 'What are you doing?' Its original aim was to provide people microfeeds of the goings-on in their lives and to keep their friends informed using as little words as possible. Companies have gotten wind of this social networking outfit and have used Twitter to provide their customers updates on the company's activities, sometimes even giving away special offers or discounts only available through Twitter contacts. Sites that run blogs or stores also use Twitter to update their contacts about new posts or products online.
Blogs ' there are a number of sites that companies use to put up blogs, with Blogger and Wordpress taking top positions. Blogs are great for disseminating information on the general public, more updated ones, that could also serve as an extension to the content featured on your main website. It also gives a human face to the company as people always feel they are to somebody and the tone of the content is usually more relaxed and less formal than on official blogs. Sometimes blogs could act as a certain forum. It is not uncommon for comment sections to turn into discussions or pseudo-forums.
Facebook ' a traditional social networking site aimed students and young professionals to build connections with one another. While most Facebook users go to these site to reconnect to former classmates and such, some companies are starting to build profile pages on Facebook and have their customers become their 'fans' as one way to promote their site, the company, and their services.
These are only a handful of the social networking sites currently in use today, but they are the most widely acknowledged of them all. It is not doubtful that there will be another social networking platform to come along to add to these listed, and I'm sure that as the internet grows, so does its function.
